Environmental Policy

Environmental Policy

Outside of housing affordability our research indicates the most crucial public policy issue concerning young Australian’s is the environment. And we agree: there is a lot of noise and complexity but not enough is being done.

In reality, protests can only achieve so much and to be honest, we’re all a little over it. No one wants to march down the street. It might make us feel good but ultimately, when the dust settles and we all go home, not a lot changes.

And then political actors lump environmental policy into everything from genocide to race, religion and interest rates. Is it any wonder we’re all so confused. With all this going on, the environment sits back and she wonders WHAT ABOUT ME?

At YAM we take the environmental argument BEYOND GREEN. We take the environmental argument out of the gutter and keep it away from the plethora of policy issues that unnecessarily muddy the waters. We maintain an empirical (factual), scientific, non-emotional and accurate approach: and we’ll show you below how that can be done. In our view, the environment deserves a more mature approach.

We kinda like to keep it real at YAM

SO how about a political party / movement that just doesn’t talk, but rather walks the walk? How about a political party that not only seeks to secure your support, but that actively delivers meaningful programs - in it’s own right - locally, nationally and globally.

Now that’s a game changer right there.

The point we often make at YAM is “…why are we discussing all of these so called ‘complex’ and unnecessary issues when we simply cannot deliver the basics?” It’s a fair question.

Did you know therefore, that 80% of the world’s population still does not have access to potable drinking water? WOW.

So we developed the ‘Water for the World’ initiative. Our goal is to send teams overseas on short trips to build infrastructure and provide resources to communities in desperate need of clean, potable drinking water. It’s our commitment to the global community and a world view grounded in the belief that we all have an opportunity to make someone’s life better tomorrow, than it is today.

National Parks & State Forests

Governments for decades have declared large areas of land as either National Parks (Federal) or State Forests (State). These terrestrial based paradigms are premised on conservation and so only allow specific activities to occur in them. We explain the landscape and the main policy drivers.

Nuclear Energy

With the phase out of fossil fuels as the primary driver for base load power generation, something will need to fill the gap. Will sustainable solutions be ready, will there be enough to deliver base load power and, when you take the politics out of the debate, is nuclear energy a solution for Australia?

Electric Vehicles

Electric Vehicles (EVs) have an interesting history and date back, funnily enough, decades. But with resale values plummeting, new Chinese EV’s soaking the market, the USA banning key manufacturers and Europe taking a rather weird approach, what does the market look like for EVs now and into the future?

Hydrogen

Some very rich people have invested heavily in hydrogen and then mothballed the entire venture; after securing millions of dollars of grants from government. But why? We explain hydrogen in a way almost anyone can understand it. We then look at who has done what and attempt to look into the future via a neutral lens.

Native Logging

No where is logging more contentious and mixed with a chequered history than in Tasmania. Allow us to simplify the debate and characterise the actors to explore what really went on when old growth logging was front page of every paper in the country.

Sustainable Energy

Many argue the sheer Co2 needed to make, construct and run a wind turbine will never be made up in the life of the turbine. Others point to the problem we have marrying new technology with old infrastructure - especially with electricity distribution. We’ll tackle the issue in a way you can understand.

Mining

Australia has some of the largest iron ore deposits. We dig it up but then others make steel out of it and sell it back to us for 20 times the value. How long will the ‘mining boom’ last and what are the consequences for the economy when it slows? We’ll try and make sense of it all.

The Carbon Argument

Since Kyoto there have been a plethora of global meetings with countries committing to net zero emissions by certain dates. Its complex and you need to be a Professor studying it full-time to completely understand it all. We’ll make it easy and explain the why and the when.
